T-Kash Charges: Fees and Limits in 2026

T-Kash charges 2026: current transaction fees, withdrawal costs, free services, and money transfer rates for Telkom Kenya's mobile money platform. Full tariff tables, transaction limits, and cost-saving tips for T-Kash users.

Free T-Kash Services

Several core T-Kash actions cost nothing. Before looking at the charging tiers, it's worth knowing what's free:

  • T-Kash registration — signing up costs nothing; you only need an original Kenyan National ID (or other accepted identification) at a Telkom shop or T-Kash agent.
  • Receiving money — there's no fee to receive a transfer, whether it comes from T-Kash, Airtel Money, or M-Pesa.
  • Deposits — depositing cash into your T-Kash wallet at any agent is free.
  • Airtime purchases — topping up your own or another Telkom line via T-Kash has no transaction fee.
  • Balance inquiries — checking your T-Kash wallet balance is free at any time.
  • PIN changes — resetting or updating your T-Kash PIN carries no charge.
  • Sending KSh 1 to KSh 100 — small transfers of KSh 100 or below to any registered T-Kash, Airtel Money, or M-Pesa user are completely free.

Getting Started with T-Kash

Registration is free at any Telkom Shop or authorized Telkom Agent — you'll need an original identification document. Once registered, activate your account directly from your phone:

  1. Go to your T-Kash menu.
  2. Select "Activate."
  3. Enter your identification document number (the one used during registration).
  4. Enter your date of birth (format: DDMMYYYY).
  5. Enter a new PIN, then re-enter it to confirm.
  6. You'll receive a T-Kash confirmation SMS once activation is complete.

Key Transaction Limits and Policies

Knowing these limits and policies upfront helps you avoid failed transactions and know what to do if something goes wrong.

Account Limits

Confirmed directly on Telkom's own T-Kash site:

Limit Type Amount (KSh)
Maximum Wallet Balance 500,000
Maximum Daily Transaction Value 500,000
Maximum Amount per Single Transaction 250,000
Minimum Agent Withdrawal 50

The top fee band for sending, withdrawing, and bank transfers runs all the way up to this KSh 250,000 ceiling at a flat capped rate — there's no separate, higher band above it.

Important Policies

  • Reversing a wrong-number transfer — call T-Kash customer care immediately by dialing 160. An agent will verify and log your claim, and the reversal is processed within a maximum of 1 working day — provided the recipient hasn't already spent the funds.
  • Airtime purchases can't be reversed — unlike money transfers, Telkom cannot reverse airtime bought to the wrong number, so double-check the recipient before confirming.
  • ID required for registration and withdrawal — you need your original National ID or valid Passport both to register for T-Kash and to transact at any T-Kash agent outlet.

T-Kash Withdrawal Charges

Cashing out on T-Kash works through agents: you generate a T-Kash code from your phone (valid for 10 minutes), take it to any T-Kash agent along with your original ID, and the agent releases the cash. The minimum withdrawal is KSh 50, and charges range from KSh 11 for the smallest amounts up to a flat KSh 303 for withdrawals from KSh 50,001 up to the KSh 250,000 maximum single-transaction limit.

Withdrawals from KSh 101 to KSh 2,500 all cost a flat KSh 27 — so if you need roughly KSh 2,000, withdrawing the full KSh 2,500 costs exactly the same. Above that, fees climb sharply with each band.

T-Kash Charges for Sending Money

T-Kash uses a single tariff for sending money to any registered user, whether they're on T-Kash, Airtel Money, or M-Pesa. Charges start at KSh 6 for amounts between KSh 101 and KSh 500, and the fee caps at KSh 103 once you're above KSh 20,000 — so sending KSh 25,000 costs the same as sending the maximum KSh 250,000.

A note on direction: this tariff applies when you send from T-Kash. If someone sends you money from M-Pesa into your T-Kash wallet, Safaricom's own M-Pesa tariff applies instead, since Safaricom harmonized its 2026 cross-network rates.

T-Kash Paybill & Bank Transfer Charges

T-Kash also supports moving money to and from a bank account, and paying businesses directly through Paybill numbers. Each has its own tariff — Bank-to-T-Kash transfers are the cheapest of the three, capping at KSh 22 for any amount up to the KSh 250,000 maximum single-transaction limit, while Paybill payments follow their own separate, steeper bands.

Cost-Saving Tips

Understanding T-Kash's fee bands lets you make smarter decisions about how and when you transact:

  1. Take advantage of free small transfers. All transfers of KSh 100 or below are free — keep small sends at or under that mark.
  2. Round up to the top of a band, not just over it. If you need to send around KSh 2,400, there's no penalty in sending the full KSh 2,500 — both cost KSh 33.
  3. Withdraw within the flat fee band where possible. Withdrawals from KSh 101 to KSh 2,500 all cost a flat KSh 27 — plan withdrawal amounts to land within the cheaper band rather than just above a boundary.
  4. Consolidate withdrawals. Making fewer, larger withdrawals is usually cheaper overall than several smaller ones once you're near the top of a flat-fee band.
  5. Use bank transfers for large, infrequent payments. Bank-to-T-Kash charges cap at KSh 22 for any amount from KSh 1,001 up to the KSh 250,000 maximum — often cheaper than the equivalent send-money fee.
  6. Check which network you're sending from, not just the destination. Cross-network fees now depend on the sender's home platform, so the cheapest way to move money between M-Pesa and T-Kash can differ depending on who initiates the transfer.

The sending-money and withdrawal figures above have been cross-checked against Telkom's own printed T-Kash Tariff Guide, effective September 1, 2023 — the same rate card confirmed in-store and via Telkom's official channels. The Paybill and bank-transfer figures are still sourced from secondary trackers, since they don't appear on that printed guide, so treat those with more caution and confirm with Telkom before a large transaction. Telkom can revise tariffs at any time with CBK approval — dial 334# to check current charges in-app, or call T-Kash customer care (160) with questions.
