How Airtel Money Withdrawal Charges Work
Withdrawing cash from your Airtel Money wallet at an agent outlet uses a tiered fee structure: every withdrawal within a band pays the same flat fee, and crossing into the next band increases the charge immediately. Withdrawal charges are consistently higher than Send Money charges for the same amount, which reflects the higher operational cost of moving physical cash through an agent network compared to keeping funds inside the digital wallet system.
The minimum agent withdrawal is KSh 50. There is no published withdrawal band below that amount.

The table below reflects Airtel Kenya's officially published tariff guide.
| Withdrawal Band (KSh) | Charge (KSh) |
|---|---|

| 50 – 100 | 11 |
| 101 – 500 | 29 |
| 501 – 1,000 | 29 |
| 1,001 – 1,500 | 29 |
| 1,501 – 2,500 | 29 |
| 2,501 – 3,500 | 52 |
| 3,501 – 5,000 | 69 |
| 5,001 – 7,500 | 87 |
| 7,501 – 10,000 | 115 |
| 10,001 – 15,000 | 167 |
| 15,001 – 20,000 | 185 |
| 20,001 – 25,000 | 197 |
| 25,001 – 30,000 | 197 |
| 30,001 – 35,000 | 197 |
| 35,001 – 40,000 | 278 |
| 40,001 – 45,000 | 278 |
| 45,001 – 50,000 | 278 |
| 50,001 – 70,000 | 309 |
| 70,001 – 150,000 | 309 |
| Above 150,000 | 309 |
The maximum single-withdrawal fee is capped at KSh 309, applying to any amount from KSh 50,001 up to the KSh 250,000 per-transaction limit. To withdraw at an agent, you'll need your original Kenyan National ID or Kenyan Passport.
ATM Withdrawals
Airtel Money supports cash withdrawal at selected partner-bank ATMs. Unlike the agent tariff above, Airtel's published tariff guide does not include a separate per-band ATM fee table — the fee, which may be set by the partner bank, is shown on the ATM screen at the time of withdrawal. Airtel's cash access network has also been expanding: a distribution partnership with KCB announced in June 2026 is adding an estimated 22,000 additional agent and banking touchpoints.
How This Compares to M-Pesa
Airtel's agent withdrawal tariff is now identical, band-for-band, to Safaricom's own M-Pesa agent withdrawal tariff. Withdrawing KSh 10,000 costs KSh 115 whether you're on Airtel Money or M-Pesa. As with Send Money charges, this represents a shift from Airtel's earlier positioning as the lower-cost withdrawal option — that price gap has closed for agent cash-out.
Send Money vs Withdrawal — Why Sending Is Usually Cheaper
Comparing the Send Money and Withdrawal tables directly shows the pattern clearly:
| Amount (KSh) | Send to Other Network (KSh) | Agent Withdrawal (KSh) |
|---|---|---|
| 500 | 7 | 29 |
| 1,000 | 13 | 29 |
| 5,000 | 57 | 69 |
| 10,000 | 90 | 115 |
| 50,000 | 108 | 309 |
If your recipient has a mobile money wallet, sending directly is almost always cheaper than withdrawing cash and handing it over in person — see Airtel Money Charges for Sending Money.
Tips for Reducing Withdrawal Charges
- Avoid withdrawing just above a tier boundary. KSh 2,500 and KSh 101 cost the same KSh 29 — there's no benefit to withdrawing less within that band, and withdrawing KSh 2,600 immediately jumps to KSh 52.
- Consolidate withdrawals. Making fewer, larger withdrawals is generally cheaper per shilling than several small ones.
- Send digitally instead of withdrawing cash to hand over. If the recipient can accept money into a wallet, this avoids the withdrawal fee entirely.
- Move funds to your bank instead of withdrawing cash where possible. Wallet-to-bank transfers are free, unlike agent withdrawals — see Lipa na Airtel Money Paybill Charges for more on wallet-to-bank transfers.
