Airtel Money charges 2026: Current transfer fees, withdrawal costs, free services, and cross-network rates, as set out in Airtel Kenya's officially published tariff guide. Official pricing, limits, and cost-saving tips for Kenya's second-largest mobile money service.
Free Airtel Money Services
Not every Airtel Money action costs money. Several essential services are completely free of charge, making the platform accessible and affordable for everyday use. Before worrying about fees, it is worth knowing what you can do at zero cost:
- Airtel to Airtel transfers — Sending money from one Airtel Money wallet to another is free at every amount band, with no upper cap.
- Sending KSh 1 to KSh 100 to any network — Small transfers of KSh 100 or below are free, whether the recipient is on Airtel, M-Pesa, or T-Kash.
- Airtel Money registration — Opening a new Airtel Money account at an agent outlet costs nothing.
- Airtel Money balance enquiry — Checking your wallet balance is free at any time.
- Changing your Airtel Money PIN — Resetting, changing, or unbarring your PIN carries no charge.
- Wallet-to-bank transfers — Moving money from your Airtel Money wallet into a bank account is free, following Airtel's 2023 tariff revision.
- Utility bill payments — Paying bills such as electricity through Lipa na Airtel Money carries zero charges.
- Receiving international transfers — Money sent to your wallet through Airtel's Remitly partnership arrives at no cost to you.
Key Transaction Limits and Policies
Airtel Money imposes several limits on accounts and transactions, set in coordination with the Central Bank of Kenya. Knowing these limits prevents failed transactions and helps you plan larger payments or withdrawals.
Account Limits
| Limit Type | Amount (KSh) |
|---|---|
| Maximum Account Balance | 500,000 |
| Maximum Daily Transaction Value | 500,000 |
| Maximum Amount per Single Transaction | 250,000 |
| Minimum Transaction Amount | 10 |
Important Policies
- Agent registration documents — Only a Kenyan National ID or Kenyan Passport is accepted to transact at an Airtel Money agent outlet.
- No published self-reversal shortcode — Unlike M-Pesa's SMS-to-456 self-reversal process, Airtel has not published an equivalent self-service reversal code. If you send to the wrong number, report it to Airtel customer care immediately.
- Minimum withdrawal is KSh 50 — There is no withdrawal band below KSh 50 on Airtel's published tariff guide.
- Confirm before you pay — Airtel revises its tariff guide from time to time. The fee shown on your confirmation screen before you enter your PIN is always the definitive charge for that specific transaction.
Airtel Money Charges for Sending Money
Airtel Money supports two send-money destinations, each with a very different pricing story.
Airtel to Airtel transfers are free at every amount — Airtel's clearest pricing advantage over M-Pesa, where even Safaricom-to-Safaricom sends above KSh 100 are charged.
Airtel to other networks (M-Pesa, T-Kash) uses a tiered structure. Transfers of KSh 100 or below are free regardless of destination network. Above that, charges start at KSh 7 for amounts between KSh 101 and KSh 500 and rise through fixed bands to a cap of KSh 108 for any amount from KSh 20,001 up to the KSh 250,000 transaction limit. Notably, these cross-network bands and fees are now identical to Safaricom's own M-Pesa Send Money tariff, band-for-band.

Airtel Money Withdrawal Charges
Withdrawing physical cash from your Airtel Money account is a routine transaction, and charges are tiered based on the amount withdrawn. Agent withdrawal charges start at KSh 11 for the smallest amounts (KSh 50–100) and rise to KSh 309 for withdrawals above KSh 50,000. The minimum agent withdrawal is KSh 50. As with Send Money, these figures are now identical to M-Pesa's published agent withdrawal tariff.
Airtel Money also supports cash withdrawal at selected partner-bank ATMs, though Airtel's published tariff guide does not include a separate per-band ATM fee table.

Lipa na Airtel Money (Paybill) Charges and Limits
Lipa na Airtel Money is Airtel's payment system for paying businesses, utilities, and billers via a business number and account reference — accessed through the Airtel Money menu or *222#.
Airtel does not publicly document a formal multi-tier tariff-choice system comparable to Safaricom's Business Bouquet, Customer Bouquet, and Mgao models; whether the customer or the business absorbs the fee depends on the individual arrangement the biller has with Airtel. Utility bill payments (e.g., electricity) are a confirmed free-to-customer example regardless of arrangement. Airtel officially revised its Paybill, bulk-payment, and wallet-to-bank charges in November 2023, cutting rates across tariff bands.

Airtel Money Overdraft
Airtel does not currently have a published overdraft tariff comparable to M-Pesa's Fuliza. In January 2026, Airtel Kenya confirmed it was in advanced stages of building a digital overdraft service, with an original target of an early-2026 launch and a stated intent to price below Fuliza's current rates. No official tariff for this product has been published yet.

Rudishiwa Transaction Fee Rewards
Airtel Money runs an ongoing loyalty program that refunds eligible transaction fees back to customers, expanded in official stages since December 2023 to cover agent withdrawals, Paybill payments, and bank-to-wallet transfers.

Cost-Saving Tips
Understanding Airtel Money's fee structure allows you to make smarter decisions about how and when you transact. Here are practical ways to minimise your costs:
- Use Airtel-to-Airtel transfers whenever the recipient is on Airtel. It's the only fully free transfer route at every amount, with no KSh 100 ceiling.
- Keep casual cross-network transfers at or under KSh 100. These stay free regardless of destination network.
- Pay utility bills through Lipa na Airtel Money. Electricity and similar bill payments carry no charge to the customer.
- Move money to your bank instead of withdrawing cash at an agent, where possible. Wallet-to-bank transfers are free; agent withdrawals are not.
- Avoid withdrawing just above a tier boundary. Agent withdrawals from KSh 101 to KSh 2,500 all cost a flat KSh 29 — there's no cost benefit to withdrawing less within that range.
- Check for active Rudishiwa promotions. Airtel periodically refunds eligible transaction fees; confirm current terms through the Airtel Money menu so you don't leave a refund unclaimed.
- Don't assume Airtel is cheaper for cross-network transfers. Since Airtel's rates to M-Pesa and T-Kash now match Safaricom's own tariff exactly, the cost difference for cross-network sends has disappeared — Airtel's savings now come only from Airtel-to-Airtel transfers and free wallet-to-bank moves.
